During the final night of color war, you start sobbing while you sing your alma mater. You have to motivate that one friend who chooses to be a conscientious objector. You are excited when you get a brand new shirt that says your team name on it, even though outsiders won’t understand what it means.Ģ0. The Apache Relay haunts you til this day. You stay up at all hours of the night to make sure everything is organized, but mostly to hang out with your team. You don’t care what you look like, as long as you’re decked out in your color.ġ7. You sing your Color War cheer when it comes on the radio, and your school friends get annoyed. You get more anxiety planning the Apache Relay than completing a final exam while at school. Your voice is completely gone from constantly cheering, or yelling at people to cheer. You learn to praise the judges, even bringing them cups of water because, well, every point counts! 13. You get a fraud alert from your bank account from spending too much money at Party City (because you MUST buy tutus, hair extensions, wigs, socks, and suspenders in your chosen color). Shirt, shorts, tutus, accessories, EVERYTHING. After finding out which team you’re on, you run back to your cabin to put on your color. Or, even better, if you’re an adviser with your best friend.ĩ. You cry out of happiness when you get a Color War position, such as a general, captain, colonel, or adviser (if you’re a counselor that still gets really into Color War). If you see a bunch of lights and hear screaming and see papers flying around, you start freaking out and wondering which team you are on, but everyone already snatched up all the papers so you wander around and ask strangers to look at their Color War lists. Every noise you hear, such as a siren, compels you to unconsciously scream “COLOR WAR!!” Even though it was probably just your excitable imagination. You’ve been frustrated when there’s a ‘fake break’ and you totally thought it was real. 4, You know this chant: “1,2,3,4, WE WANT COLOR WAR! 5,6,7,8, WE DON’T WANNA WAIT!” 5. You finally realize that you will never know the themes or team names until the war starts. Blue Sharks? Or will it be more fantasy themed, like Pirates vs. Are they going to be two different animals? Gold Lions vs. You spend weeks thinking of possible themes for the teams. You can always figure out what day Color War is going to break, even though that’s a secret only the head judges know. You know you’ve participated in a Color War when…ġ. But those bragging rights last years, and it is sweet, sweet victory. What do you win, exactly? Bragging rights. Color War, in most camps, is a four to five day activity where the entire camp splits up into two colors and battles against each other to win.
